Hunter Gather Cook - Foraging + cooking with fire since 2011

Key Information

Celebrate the groom’s day in the most authentic way possible - with a deer butchery and cook off experience. Expect lots of food, fire and hearty amounts of ale or cider (5 gallons) and lots of activities to keep your party in high spirits, in an experience designed for your group to learn the basics of of doing what men like to do: Eat, Drink and set fire to stuff.

You’ll get the party started and learn the knife skills needed to skin a deer, butcher it in to primal cuts and prepare  it ready for the grill- with a selection of HGC marinades & rubs.

Once the knives are away, you’ll have time to sit back, have a few pints and before lunch. After chowing down on Burgers & kebabs that you guys have processed from your deer, you’ll head out into the wild to identify and sample some more of Mother Nature’s bounty on a little foragy walk.

You’ll then head back to the barn for a basic fire lighting workshop, going full Ray Mears, using a variety of different techniques.

Then it’s time for the coveted HGC challenge, which only the best man (or men) are allowed to know about. This is a bush tucker trial inspired activity where the stag will have to eat his way through insects, squirrel cock, deer testicle and fish bits (depending on availability). So they can have a go at being Bear Grylls, however unconvincing they are.

The stag will also receive a special gift from the HGC team as a ‘Stagmento’ from his time in the woods.

This experience will start at 10am and finish at 5pm. The full itinerary will be sent to you upon booking.

"I went back to basics to try and simplify life as I knew it. I wanted to see if it was possible to live as a 21st-century hunter-gatherer while really getting to know the wild ingredients I loved using in the kitchen."
